From the recording emmylou

Back in the late 90s, Al Cooley was A&R VP at Atlantic Records and responsible for getting me my writing deal on Music Row. Years later when I thought of the idea for "Didn't Say," it was like one of those mid-tempo ballads Cooley was always looking for. In the studio, Dave who's worked on 100s of country ballads added big guitars and came up with a great mandolin part which gave it a 'down on the coast' feel. For years I recorded demos with top players in Nashville, hands down Dave's electric guitar tones and execution are some of the best and my favorites.

Lyrics

I keep thinking ‘bout the summer nights down in Key Biscayne
You and me holed up in a beach motel in the pouring rain
Just two strangers behind closed blinds
Making up for lost time
In a hurricane

We’d been laughing and talking under that dark bay moon
Walking hand and hand in the warm white sand, I was holding you
Maybe it was the wine
But then I felt your lips pressed to mine
And I knew

Cause I can still feel your skin
Picture you and me there again
Thinking about things, all the things I wished I’d said
But didn’t say

Now the summer’s nearly gone and I’m sitting here.. alone
Got you number down in Austin, wondering if you’re home
Waiting on the sun to rise
From another tequila night
Holding on this phone

Yeah I can still feel your skin
Picture you and me there again
Thinking about things, all the things I wished I’d said
But didn’t say
Solo
Yeah I can still feel your skin
Picture you and me there again
Thinking about things, all the things I wished I’d said

Yeah, I can still feel your skin
Picture you and me there again
Thinking about things, all the things I wished I’d said
But didn’t say…but didn’t say…didn’t say

Tag I keep thinking ‘bout the summer nights down in Key Biscayne
