From the recording emmylou
A country rocker written early one morning back in April on my Kristofferson SJ. That guitar's been pretty prolific since coming home with me after a late night call from an employee friend at Gruhn's. "You should come play this guitar. It's what you've been looking for...It'll be gone tomorrow." We produced this more like a 70s throwback with Dave's lap steel lead, big drums and electrics including Dave's Les Paul, and with more upfront background vocals. Released as the first single from GC 3 in January.
Lyrics
I saw the sky turn black
Like an alien attack
Like it never will turn back
Like it wasn't ever blue
Then I fell from grace
Like I was lost somewhere in space
And I can’t forget her face
Cause I see her every place
That’s what love can do
And all the while I’m drowning in her smile
Lost in memories lasting me a while
I’m on the streets alone
Waking on the cobblestone
And I thought she called my phone
But that’s been nothin’ new
Cause I still feel her kiss
And the taste of her sweet lips
And the touch that I still miss
And it can’t go on like this
That’s what love can do
And for a while she brought me back to life
Broke into my heart as cold as ice
Ahhhhh…
I saw the sky turn black
Like an alien attack
Like it never will turn back
Like it wasn't ever blue
Ahhhhh… That’s what love can do…That’s what love can do… Break your heart in two
That’s what love can do …That’s what love can do… Break your heart in two
